The Flying Kites School Network
To promote collective action and accountability across our sub-county, we convene and partner with public primary schools in rural Kenya (collectively, the “Flying Kites School Network”) to introduce, deliver, and evaluate the impact of our school-based programs designed to help girls live healthy, self-determined lives.
Girls Education & Leadership
We train female teachers to launch Girls Education & Leadership Clubs and provide girls with access to sexual and reproductive health education, leadership development, and ongoing mentorship for them to serve as ambassadors to the wider community on topics of gender equity and the rights of girls.
School Meals, Clean Water & Sanitation
By introducing our School Meals Program, scaffolded by quality, eco-friendly kitchens and improved access to WASH facilities, we are reducing hunger as a barrier to learning and strengthening an infrastructure for student health.
Trained & Equipped Teachers
Through our Teacher Training Center, we are building the capacity of teachers to create gender-equitable classrooms and enhance student learning. Through the lens of digital literacy, we support teachers to develop the 21st century skills they need to create and deliver engaging lesson plans, monitor student outcomes, and access online resources for self-directed professional development.
Safe & Inclusive Classrooms
We partner with primary school teachers and Child Protection Volunteers to create gender-equitable classrooms and to strengthen safety and inclusivity within primary schools. We conduct Gender Equity Trainings for leaders across our Network schools. Using components of USAID’s Doorways Training Program, we train primary school teachers and Child Protection Volunteers to introduce concepts of gender equity, discuss beliefs, and examine gender roles.
